Nine Key Points for Newbie Web3 Security

1. Don't Rush to Click Airdrop Links#

Many friends rush to click on airdrop links released by project parties, ignoring the risk that the project or KOL accounts may have been hacked. Projects like EigenLayer and Puffer have encountered such incidents, turning links into phishing traps. My approach is to wait until at least 3-5 major KOLs share the same project's airdrop before checking with a secondary account (never use your main account to lead the way).

2. Be Cautious with Projects Requiring Chrome Plugin Downloads#

Previous cases have shown that malicious Chrome plugins can steal user cookies, leading to account password leaks. Avoid downloading plugins casually unless necessary.

3. Absolutely Avoid Projects Requiring Software Downloads#

Last year, several of my small trading wallets were stolen because the device had mining software installed, which turned out to be malware. Since then, I skip all projects that require downloading desktop software, including those under virtual machine environments.

4. Limit Amounts in Trading Wallets#

This point is self-evident: only store acceptable trading funds in your trading wallet, and do not transfer all assets from exchanges into it.

5. Do Not Update Fingerprint Browsers Unless Necessary#

Based on previous ADS theft incidents, do not update fingerprint browsers or other desktop software unless necessary. Many features are version-bound, and updates may introduce vulnerabilities instead of conveniences.

6. Download All Plugins from the Chrome Market#

Similarly, the ADS incident stemmed from supply chain poisoning attacks related to app store plugins. All Chrome plugins must be installed through the Chrome market; do not use plugins found via Baidu or Google searches.

7. Do Not Request Installation Packages from Others#

Many friends in the crypto community habitually request installation packages, such as VPNs or emulators. This is not a good habit, as malicious packages may pose security risks.

8. Do Not Click Authorizations Easily#

Last year, I almost fell for a scam: after the project party's account was hacked, they posted phishing links, and clicking the claim button would transfer all assets. Always check carefully when authorizing wallet operations.

9. Use New Wallets for Importing Wallets#

For projects that require wallet imports, such as new wallets or new platforms, I always use a newly created wallet.
